Tesla has taken a leaf from Apple’s playbook and stopped bundling a charge cable with its cars.

Initially called out by Tesla_Adri on Twitter, CEO Elon Musk subsequently confirmed the move.

“Usage statistics were super low, so seemed wasteful,” Mr Musk said on Twitter.

The home charge cable – which can be plugged into a regular home wall plug, and is the slowest way to recharge an electric car – is currently priced at $US400 (or $A860) on the Tesla website.

It’s described as an “easy charging solution for customers who don’t drive much”.

However Mr Musk says Tesla will “drop mobile connector price to $200 & make it easy to order with car”.

“Note, mobile connector is not needed if you have a Tesla wall connector or to use Superchargers,” Mr Musk said. “Recommend installing Tesla wall connector well before car arrives.”

CarExpert has contacted Tesla Australia to see if the wall connector will be removed from local vehicles.

The local website currently says: “The Mobile Connector is included as standard equipment with a new Tesla. It’s a compact bundle that can charge your car from different outlets at medium to low speeds”.
